Capstone Theme: Why Global Issues in Arkansas?

Interview with Jacob Howard: Trip Curriculum Committee Chair

When deciding on a theme for this year's Capstone conference and trip the curriculum committees knew that the environment would play a key role. There were multiple themes considered before Global Issues in Arkansas became the decided theme. In addition to Global Issues in Arkansas, two others: The Natural State and Renewable Energy in Arkansas. were considered.  Ultimately, the curriculum committees felt that focusing on global issues impacting Arkansas was an important step in raising awareness among the 8th grade class and the local community.  At the conclusion of the conference and trip, the curriculum committees hope that the 8th grade class will understand that global issues impact everyone.

Capstone T-shirt Design

Interview with Lee Tucker: Public Relations Co-Chair

The logo design for the 2014 Capstone t-shirt was inspired by Episcopal’s school colors and the theme Global Issues in Arkansas.  The mountain within the logo was inspired by the idea that we live in “The Natural State." When planning the logo design the committee first looked online at other t-shirt designs for inspiration.  While a committee member did not do an actual drawing of the logo, online graphics were chosen and edited by committee members. In addition several other factors led the final design including committee agreement and pricing.

Capstone Committee Update February 21st

After several months of meeting with our committees, we have made significant progress in planning our conference and trip as well as planning opportunities to participate in service work with the local non-profit, Our House.

The Trip Logistics Committee has been busy planning various portions of our trip including: calling hotels to inquire about pricing and lodging options, researching restaurants in close proximity to our trip locations, as well as researching activities and possible locations to visit that address our theme of Global Issues in Arkansas.

The Conference Logistics Committee have focused on organizing an experienced and knowledegable panel of speakers that can address topics pertinent to our theme, deciding on a space at school that will work well for the conference as well as organizing refreshments for our speakers and guests during the conference.

The Finance Committee has been developing the budgets that each of the committees have to work with to plan the conference and the trip.

The Conference and Trip Curriculum Committees have focused their attention on activities and assignments that each of us will complete during and after the conference and the trip.

The Public Relations Committee has designed our 2013-2014 Capstone T-shirt as well as writing a press release informing the 8th grade parents about the Capstone project.

The Service Committee has worked with Our House to plan and finalize service opportunities.
